The Church of All Saints

Municipality: Sedliště

The biggest attraction of Sedliště which cannot be overlooked in the centre of the municipality is a small wooden Church of All Saints built in 1638 at the place of an old wooden church from 1447. The old church was not original either because its predecessor came from 1305. The present church has a shingle roof and around the central aisle there is a cloister in the outer side. A sacristy was added from the side. The past centuries will breathe on us most inside, in a beautiful environment. There is an antique confessional box and a rostrum from 1680. The organ date back to 1862. The church is surrounded by a cemetery which has not been used for burying for years but you can see there a lot of old cast-iron crosses. Somebody had a happy idea to preserve these tomb crosses as a sacred exposition of the work and style of old skilful hands. In the small cemetery there is a memorial to Bohumil Marek, a writer and cultural worker, a big friend of Sedliště. The memorial is only symbolic because he wished his ashes to be dispersed under the Beskydy Mountains. A simple low wooden cross with the crown of thorns was built at the main path leading from the church entrance on the right side on 24 September 1994. It is consecrated and bears the inscription "To the victims of communism".
