Municipality: Morávka
The top of Travný is a huge forested mountain located in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy and lying above the Mohelnice Valley.
The Velký Javorník observation tower stands on a hill of the same name at an altitude of 918 m above sea level and was conceived as an original wooden structure based on typical Frenštát-Rožnov architecture. It has nine floors, with the first floor done in the style of local Wallachian timbered buildings and forming the control room. The total height of the tower is 25.915 m, and it has two observation decks – the first one is at a height of 15.295 m and the second one at 20.245 m above the surrounding terrain.
The tower offers a beautiful view of Frenštátská brázda, the massif of the frontal mountains of the Beskydy all the way to Lysá hora, Ondřejník, Poodří, Štramberk, and Veřovické vrchy, and when the weather is favorable then further to Malá and Velká Fatra, Roháč and Belanské Tatry in the east, and the Jeseníky with Praděd in the northwest. The upper deck includes a panoramic table for ease of orientation.
The observation tower is supposed to be open all year round, but it can happen that the tower is closed during certain periods, for example, in winter, when there is a lot of ice or snow. Admission is free.
